PSHE

Personal Social Health and Economic Education (PSHE) and Relationship Education, Health Education and Sex Education (RSE)

At The Bramble Academy, we follow a whole school PSHE and RSE scheme called Jigsaw. Jigsaw combines PSHE, RSE, emotional literacy, mindfulness, social skills, and spiritual development.

Jigsaw is designed as a whole school approach, with all year groups working on the same theme (Puzzle) at the same time. This enables each Puzzle to start with an introductory assembly, generating a whole school focus for adults and children alike. There are six Puzzles (half-term units of work) each with six Pieces (lessons), allowing for whole school themes and the end of Puzzle product, for example, a display or exhibition to be shared and celebrated by the whole school. Each year group is taught one lesson per week and all lessons are delivered in an age- and stage-appropriate way so that they meet children’s needs.

Jigsaw is more than a PSHE Scheme of Work. It provides a structured programme of personal development to nurture the ‘whole child’ and increase learning capacity, underpinned by mindfulness philosophy and practice. Here is a quick snapshot overview to explain what we are learning in each half-term’s puzzle piece: ·

Parents and Carers - wondering what is Jigsaw and PSHE?

Relationships Education, Health Education and Sex Education in the Primary School:

Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) is a teaching and learning programme which includes the statutory RSHE (Relationships Education, Sex Education and Health Education) and has a strong focus on emotional and mental health and wellbeing. We believe that this work is vital to support our children’s development and to underpin their ability to fulfil their learning potential and that it is most effective when parents and carer's work in partnership with the school. Everyone at The Bramble Academy wants children to be safe, healthy and happy and we are respectful of all faiths, beliefs and contexts of our children’s families, engaging with parents and carer's regularly. The Jigsaw programme fulfils statutory curriculum requirements, helping us to help children know who they are, understanding safety and wellbeing in readiness for their next steps.
